Our Exhibition Plans

Due to continuing uncertainty over exhibition practicality during the summer months we have reluctantly suspended preparations for a Summer Exhibition, but Ingrid Skoglund has made plans for autumn onwards starting with -

-Our Autumn Exhibition at West Horsley Place, from 5th November

- The Artisan Fair at West Horsley Place - 26th-28th November

- A Christmas Pop-up at Holy Trinity Church, 4th December

Our Artist of the Month for May is Fran Bunting

Artist of the month June 2021

You can see more of Fran's work on the GAS website. Congratulations are due to our member Christine Charlesworth, whose very fine life-sized bronze of suffragette Emily Wilding Davison was erected in Epsom's market square on the 8th of June to well-deserved public acclaim.

Life sized bronze statue of suffragette Emily Wilding Davidson

Christine had another major work installed recently, her statue of Greta Thunburg in Winchester in March, so we have some very talented people in our Society, in a variety of art forms, not only painting. You can find much more about Christine Charlesworth and Emily Davison on the internet. And Greta - well, you don't need to look!

GAS Monthly Challenge - Our Challenge for June was ..... Home, and you submitted 18 excellent entries which, as before, were anonymised and put on Instagram by Ingrid. The shortlist of the ten entries with the most Instagram 'likes' were then submitted (still anonymised) to an illustrious panel of ten which included our Chairman Sinclair, and our President Jane Allison - many thanks to the panel who had a terrible time making their decisions - please members - have pity on these poor people! The winning entry chosen by the panel was this excellent and very sensitive painting - bang on theme - by - Linda Day!

Linda Day - Home Challenge June 2021

The runner-up entry was by Lynda Willis. Congratulations to Linda and all who entered.

All 18 entries can be seen on the GAS Instagram account.

The Challenge for July is ....... Building. Lots of scope - any kind of structure(s) - houses, castles, bridges, walls ....... You know what to do - stretch the theme as far as you like - as long as there's a connection with a physical structure, in any medium or visual art form.

As before, do remember that if you ask your friends to look at your entry - ask them to put a like against all the entries that catch their eye so we we stay within the spirit of Challenge - that it's a fun competition that the best entries should win.

The winner will receive a voucher prize and be featured in next month's issue of Pipeline and on the GAS website. If you'd like to enter just email your image (jpeg file) to Ingrid at gasartexhibitions@yahoo.com - by the 20th of July.

Sally's Saturday Coffee Mornings on Zoom

Take Care - and See You Next Month!
